Plans for Youth Parish Council progressing

rachael

Alderley Edge Parish Council are in the process of setting up a Youth Parish Council which they hope will hold its inaugural meeting next month.

Councillors Ilana Higham and Rachael Grantham are looking to have two members from each of the schools in the village, a member from the guides and a possible member of the scouts (although there isn't a scout group operating at the moment in the village).

Additionally two children who live in the village and attend Wilmslow High School have approached Rachael Grantham to ask if they can be involved.

Rachael said "We will be meeting with each of the schools before the end of September to get their representatives and the guides are holding an election at the end of this month so we hope to hold our first Youth Parish Council meeting on 5th of October prior to the Parish Council meeting."

The Parish Council has applied for a grant of £1000 from Gascoigne Halman. There is also £1000 set aside in the Parish Council budget from when the previous PCSO was trying to set up a youth club in the village which could be transferred.

Glad to hear that this is progressing. Can i just clear something up which i think may cause confusion in the article. There is a scout group in Alderley Edge. The group consists of 3 sections, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. We also have a thriving Explorer Unit which meets at the scout hall. What ages are the youth parish council interested in representing?
To my knowledge those of us involved in scouting have not been contacted about this. The scout section is temporarily on hold due to work committments of the leaders but the other sections are still meeting. We have just relaunched beavers with new meeting times and 3 new leaders and the explorer unit also have new leaders. Lisa can you please forward my email address if required to those involved as we are interested in being included.
Many thanks
