Police investigating the rape of a woman in a car park have issued an evofit of a suspect.

The attack happened on Friday 28th August at around 7pm, when a woman in her late 20s was parked up in a car at the far end of the John Lewis car park.

A man opened the car door, pulled the woman away from her car into some nearby bushes and raped her.

Her attacker then ran off into the undergrowth in the general direction towards Wilmslow Road.

The victim visited St Mary's Sexual Assault Referral Centre following the attack, and reported the incident to police on Sunday, 30th August.

The offender is described as an Asian man, approximately 40 years old, medium build, with black hair, heavily pock-marked and open-pored skin on his face, with a thick black mono-brow, wearing black jogging bottoms.

Detective Inspector Roger Edwards from GMP's Stockport division said: "News of this attack has understandably shocked the local community and our officers have been speaking to the community over the past couple of days to try and identify the man responsible.

"We are offering all the support we can to the young lady who suffered this traumatic ordeal, and she has now been able to provide us with an efit of her attacker.

"I am appealing to anyone that thinks they may recognise the man in this efit, who is described as having deep pock-type scars on his face, to get in touch. Or did you perhaps see this man anywhere around the retail park near to John Lewis or Sainsburys on Friday evening?

"You may think your information is trivial, but it could be vital to our investigation, so please call us and tell us what you know."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 9770 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
