The 74th Alderley Edge Village Show, formally called the Annual show, proved a big success at the weekend.
Over 250 visitors attended the show, which was organised by the Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society and held in the Millennium Hall at Alderley Edge School for Girls on Saturday, 22nd August.
The overall number of exhibits was up from last year with 65 people entering over 420 exhibits which included flowers, fruit and vegetables, cookery, domestic crafts and children's categories such cookery and drawing.
Fenton Simpson, Chairman of Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society, presented the cups and trophies with Chris Yearsley from Alderley Edge picking up the most awards with a total of twelve.
Fenton said "Despite the terrible start to the growing year with a cold spring the fruit and vegetable entries were all in good condition. The Judge John Saunders commented that the entries in the fruit and vegetables classes overall were good. However we did not get any entries in the sweetcorn class, due to the cold spring. Domestic crafts entries were down slightly and the home cookery entries were slightly up on last year.
"We do struggle to get many children's entries but this is partly due to the show being at the end of the school holidays. If anyone has any good ideas on future children's class please let me know by email."
Fenton added "The pop up café is in its second year and proving to be a very popular attraction for our visitors. It would be nice to have some live music for next years show. If anyone wants to play in next year's show please let me know.
"It was also nice to be able to give local groups space to display their activities, such as the village quilt and Alderley Edge Union Club, Age UK and Cancer Research we also present. Cancer Research were selling the old framed photos from the De Trafford pub, they raised £300 for the charity."
"All the feedback that I've received so far says that this was the best show ever!"

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
A massive amount of work goes on by the show organisers and all the helpers,so we'll done everyone.
My personal opinion now! Village Show and only 250 through the door or showing an interest?
Very poor indeed for a village of over 3500!
People are always going on about our village this and that and how great it is to live here, how about showing some interest in things that are put on for the village!!
The girls school were brilliant like last year and John the caretaker was exceptionally helpful.
Thanks also to all the local businesses who donated prizes to the raffle. We still have prizes to hand over to the winners who were not at the draw.
