Derbyshire Caving Club are holding an Open Weekend at the Alderley Edge Copper Mines next month.

Guided underground tours of Wood Mine, which is a more sporting venture than Engine Vein, will run every half an hour from 10am with the last trip at 4pm on both Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September.

Space on any of the trips can be reserved or people can just turn up on the day as space is left for people who do not book.

Reservations can be made online and the costs are £16 for a family (2 adults and 2 children), £6 for adults, £4 for over 65s, £3 for children aged 5 to 15 and under 5s are free.

Nigel Dibben of Derbyshire Caving Club said "Open Days have been running since the early 1980s and remain as popular as ever. All trips are guided by Derbyshire Caving Club members who can also tell visitors about our activities at the Edge and caving and mining elsewhere."

You do not need to bring any special equipment. Lights and helmets will be provided but you should wear reasonable footwear and old clothes as they may get a bit sandy or muddy.

Wood Mine is found in Windmill Wood, the entrance to which is opposite Beacon Lodge.
