Countdown to the 74th village show

The Alderley Edge Village Show, formally called the Annual show, has been a part of our Village life for 74 years.

Organised by the Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society, the Village Show on Saturday 22nd August is open to everyone in the village, and outside competitors. It is a fun event at the end of the summer, where gardeners, cookery and handicraft specialists come together in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere to exhibit and to be judged for trophies, awards and cash prizes.

This is your chance to enter your flowers, fruit or vegetables, cakes, preserves, handicraft items, photographs and works of art, to see how they fare against other competitors.

There are classes for young adults and children too so make it a family day. This year there are two new classes for both adults and children, The Best Scarecrow and a Halloween Pumpkin.

Fenton Simpson, Chairman of Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society, said "Many people have never entered an event like this and seem nervous to do so! Cast caution to the wind and give it your best shot in The Newcomers Class.

"You can relax in our "pop up" Café, in the Hall, where delicious homemade cakes will be available all afternoon from 12noon till the close of the show."

There will be the added attraction of a raffle, which boasts many great prizes, kindly donated by our village business sponsors and private supporters.

Entries should be brought along to along to The Millennium Hall at Alderley Edge School for Girls on the evening of Friday, 21st August, with judging taking place during the afternoon on Saturday 22nd of August.

More details are in the village show schedule, together with the entry form. The schedules are on display in Alderley Edge and Wilmslow Libraries, or email Jackie Dudley-Jones. The show schedule can also be downloaded on the societie's website

Fenton Simpson added "We would also like to invite any local interest groups to exhibit their societies and club's products or activities at the Millennium Hall alongside the show entries and the café. If you are interested in having a display stand or a table at the Show, please email me.

The Alderley Edge Village Show will take place at Alderley Edge School for Girls in The Millennium Hall off Brook Lane on Saturday 22nd August from 12noon to 4.45pm.

AgeUK will be at the show as well as Granthams store.

There is no charge for this. This is a village coming together event !

I'm looking for a celeb to officially open the show, so if you know one... Give them a nudge !

Why, whenever I follow the threads on this forum, does there appear to be a little ear-worm playing endless loops of Joni Mitchells "Big Yellow Taxi"?

I applaud the work you do Fenton in trying to bring (horti) culture to the masses!
