Six youths were caught by police after deliberately starting a small fire inside a former nightclub at Harden Park.

The incident occurred at the derelict former Yesterdays building at 4.22pm on Saturday, 4th July.

PCSO Sarah Stanley was first on the scene and stopped six youths who were still in the premises and tried to escape.

PCSO Stanley said " All details were taken by officers and home visits were conducted to those who live locally. Letters will be sent to the others via the ASB coordinator in due course."

One fire engine from Wilmslow and one from Greater Manchester attended the incident. The fire was out on arrival so firefighters damped down the area.

Wilmslow Community Sergeant Angela Coppock said "Six youths had broken in and lit a small fire. The management company were advised in relation to the premises being insecure."

The Victorian villa was used as a nightclub until 2004, but originally it was a small hotel. However, the property has remained vacant for the past 11 years and suffered from vandalism and neglect.

Over the last few months police have been monitoring the building and trying to ensure it is secure after numerous local residents raised concerns about teenagers using The Ryleys playing field to cut through to the old Yesterdays night club.

In 2011 plans to create a 68 bedroom hotel with a ground floor bistro and spa at the site, which lies in the North Cheshire Green Belt, were refused, but last month MCR Property Group applied to demolish the former nightclub and replace it with ten 4-bedroom bungalows.

Anyone with any information about the arson attack is urged to call police on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
