A series of one day closures starts next week on Stevens Street to allow for the delivery and installation of materials for the new development on the corner of London Road.

Stevens Street will be closed from 9am until 4pm on Monday, 24th August, for 100 metres from the junction with London Road.

During the road closure a two way system will be introduced on Stevens Street, for its entire length, providing access for businesses and residents.

To accommodate the flow of two way traffic the parking bays along Stevens Street will be suspended between 9am and 4pm.

MH Stainton have permission to close Stevens Street on 20 separate Mondays or Fridays between 13th July and 25th September, between the hours of 9am and 4pm. A notice will be placed on a board confirming the dates of each closure a week beforehand.

Site Manager Eamonn McDaid told me "Even though we have 20 closures in place we are going to keep them to a minimum and may only need 16 or 17."

The 12 month project, to create eight 2-bedroom apartments above the two retail units (to be occupied by Henry Johnstone Jewellers and Margaret Dabbs), is currently on schedule to be completed in June 2016.

Eamonn added "We plan to get the scaffolding down as soon as possible and move the hoarding in to give space back as soon we can."
