New Opinion section launched

IMG_0485

We have launched a new Opinion section on alderleyedge.com where we are inviting our readers to submit letters or articles concerning local issues.

This has replaced the Discussion Forum, due to the lack of posts and the rise of social media the forum didn't really have a place on the site anymore.

Hopefully this new section will include some interesting and well-written user-generated pieces on local issues not covered in my editorial or expanding on topics previously featured - which will bring about some discussion.

Please send your Opinion pieces for consideration to [email protected] with a title and image if possible.

All Opinion pieces that are selected for publication will be published under the name of the author, so in order to have your letter or article published on alderleyedge.com you will need to be registered as a member.

If you are not yet registered on alderleyedge.com you can do so by clicking here, it only takes one minute and you can unsubscribe at any point.

Other members can then share their opinions and join in the conversion via the comment box at the end of each letter or article.

Writers are of course entitled to their own opinions, but please ensure that any statements made or facts included are accurate.

The Opinion section is not to be used for promotional purposes and I'm afraid due to the high volume of emails received it will not be possible for me to respond to all emails.

Briliant idea as there are lots of opinion in this village !

How does this affect the App compared to web users ?

Fenton, we launched our responsive website in July 2013, which automatically adapts to the screen size of the device you are using.

With the launch of the responsive web site this means there is no need to use the alderleyedge.com App, parts of which have not been updated in the past two years.

alderleyedge.com is best viewed via the unified responsive web site, irrespective of device as this provides mobile users with the same convenient access to all articles (rather than just the past 2 weeks) past and present, features such as full photo galleries and the ability to comment - which are not available via the app.

Lack of posts in the discussion forum?
No more Mrs Beatties Sweet Shop?
How do I actually start a topic now? (ie. post an opinion)
Is this really 'The Vic Barlow channel' (nothing wrong with that, I could read Vic all day!)
How do I post about a missing/found dog/cat/other, complain about parking, generally vent about the allotments etc.
Or can I only have an opinion on Editors 'selected for publication' topics?

Confused and a little upset about the demise of the most read and most useful section of this website. Maybe just a weekly visit from me.

Hi Chris, I am sorry you are a little upset about the removal of the forum but it was certainly not the most read section of the website - it averaged three posts a week.

The Opinion section is not just for an opinion on my selected topics, it is for readers to raise their own topics - or complain about parking or vent about the allotments if they wish. There are also many articles on these topics which invite reader's comments.

If you wish to submit an Opinion piece, you just need to email it to the address above.

I will of course revisit the decision if the Opinion section does not prove popular.

I suspect the fact that the Forum was not accessible from the mobile versions of the site would have limited the number of people accessing and posting. I for one was a regular visitor and poster - although perhaps not 3 posts per week!!

Personally, I don't think it is working, Lisa. Last comment dated 10th July? Surely the Form was more popular and better used than this Opinion page. Please bring the Forum back - then readers - please use it!!!!
