Alderley District Scout Band were triumphant in the first competition of the year for the Traditional Youth Marching Band Association.

On Sunday, 28th June, the band competed in the National Class at the Halesowen Marching Band competition and won.

The band had to perform a display involving marching manoeuvres set to music and were judged on a number of disciplines. Alderley District Scout Band won best non-valved wind and best wind overall, best general musical effect, best display and best mallets - as well as coming runners up in percussion and drill. As a result they were announced as the overall champions.

This was a fantastic achievement for the band as this year they promoted seven trainees into the competition band, so this was their first ever competition, and they beat the current national champions to take the top spot.

Band Leader, Simon Taylor said "It was an early start, getting on the coach at 7.45am. A hold up on the motorway meant we were pushed for time when we arrived at the venue. The band performed extremely well, in particular our seven newly promoted trainees.

"We are immensely proud of all our members who have put in many hours of hard work practicing, outside come rain or shine. We now look forward to our next competition at Leek, Staffordshire in September."

Simon added "Alderley District Scout Band are actively recruiting for new members, no musical experience is required. Instruments and tuition are free, so there is no better opportunity for your child to learn a musical instrument, make new friends and have fun doing so!"
