Sun shines on Alderley Edge Village Fete

Thankfully the rain stopped and the sun came out just in time for the Alderley Edge Village Fete.

Young, old and their four legged friends gathered at the cricket club on Sunday, 28th June to enjoy the traditional summer fete which is now in its seventh year.

Crowds enjoyed a dog show, chainsaw sculpture, laser clay pigeon shooting, WFA penalty shootout, artisan stalls, fairground rides, teas and cakes.

Musicians from local schools performed throughout the afternoon and our columnist Vic Barlow ran a dog behaviour clinic, working one-on-one with dogs in return for a donation to a local animal charity.

As part of the event organisers were raising funds for Francis House Children's Hospice, which provides respite for children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

Carole Geary, from Francis House Children's Hospice, said "We raised £1500 for the hospice which is fantastic. Thank you to the WI for providing the cakes and to the cricket club for supporting Francis House Children's Hospice.

"It was a slow start with the rain falling as the gates opened, then the sun shined for us."

Additionally, Suzie Hine had a cake stall in the marquee to raise money for motor neurone disease.

She told alderleyedge.com "We had a great day on Sunday at the summer fete. Glad the sun came out in the afternoon.

"We managed to raise over £500 for motor neurone disease. The charity is close to mine and my sister, Millie, hearts as our mum passed away last month from the disease.

"We grew up in Alderley and dad has been member if cricket club forever. Mum was a keen baker so we couldn't think of a better venue and way to help raise money for MND Cheshire. We had lots of cake donations, helpers and generous cash donations on the day. Mum would have loved it."
