Vulcan bomber flies over the Edge on farewell tour

Thousands of people were delighted to see the last flying Vulcan bomber take to the skies over Cheshire and Greater Manchester today as part of its "Salute to the V-Force" farewell tour.

Whilst many turned out to see the former RAF bomber, registered as XH558, flypast Woodford Aerodrome, lots of local residents were fortunate enough to see the spectacular Vulcan from their own back garden in Alderley Edge.

Professional photographer Martin Pawlett Photography kindly provided these fantastic photographs taken from the Edge.

Martin wasn't planning to take photos of the Vulcan, he just happened to be at the Edge with a bride and groom for a post wedding photoshoot and hung around afterwards as he knew the bomber was due to fly over.

We were lucky enough to see the Vulcan on Saturday afternoon from up on the Edge. From this great vantage point we watched as it flew over Manchester Airport then Woodford, it then turned and flew right over everyone watching from the Edge. Absolutely brilliant! It could not have been better. Sorry Dave Clarke (no relation) you missed a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Brilliant photos. I was up on Castle Rock, along with many others, and had a fine view. I took an excellent video of this iconic event.
I remember well when they did ILS checks at Manchester A/p and did that spectacular vertical climb away (showing off!). It is very sad that we wont see this old warbird in the air again. I gather that RR can't guarantee the maintenance of a 60 year old jet engine.
