Seventeen local gardeners are paying extra special attention to their gardens at present because they are booked to open to the public at the end of the month.

Between 10.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday 27th June, people will be the opportunity to visit these very special gardens located in Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge.

All these gardeners are opening for the benefit of Wilmslow Wells for Africa, which, over the past 31 years, has funded 190 projects to provide sources of clean water for rural African communities. The charity is run entirely by volunteers and 99.2% of income is spent directly on projects such as simple wells, boreholes and rainwater harvesting equipment.

Several of them will be selling light refreshments to enjoy in delightful surroundings. Gardener's lunches will also be sold for £5 until 2pm at St John's Church Rooms on Knutsford Road, where a selection of delicious home-made cakes will also be available to buy.

Tickets cost £9 if bought in advance of the day and can be bought at any of the gardens, or St John's Church Rooms, for £10 on the day.

There is no charge for children, many of whom will be attracted to the narrow-gauge model railway steaming throughout the day at The Circuit. Children might also wish to hunt for fairies at one of the gardens in Handforth!

Additionally early visitors to the two open gardens in Orchard Green, Alderley Edge, may see the live broadcast of BBC Manchester's Saturday morning gardening programme.

Helen Battilana, Chairman of Wilmslow Wells for Africa said "This is the 23rd Garden's Day organised by Wilmslow Wells. Last year's event raised over £11,500. It is anticipated that this forthcoming fundraiser will result in topping £1 million of money raised since the first well project in 1984 when a target of just £2,250 was achieved to provide a deep bored well in the South African Homeland village of Jericho."

Visit the charity's website for details of all the gardens which will be open on Saturday 27th June.
