Beer festival includes full day of live music

The Union Club on Stevens Street is looking forward to hosting their 7th annual Micro Beer Festival on Saturday, 27th June.

Along with real ales and ciders from local micro breweries, food will be available and visitors will be entertained with live music from Borowski Moylan and Hammill, The Purpletones, Incredible Planet, Gaynor Wilson & Paul McGladdery and Over Alderley Brass Band.

Terry Bowes, Secretary of Alderley Edge Union Club, said "The Union Club is quite possibly the oldest institution in the village, built in 1890 as Liberal Unionist Club, with parish rooms, a 400 seat cinema and it also housed a private school. The Conservative Club was on London Road, then both parties merged hence the name Union Club.

"The Beer Festival originated to create an extra interest for the members, friends and families and also to raise revenue to spend on refurbishments. It has carried on from there. We are now in our 7th year and rather than just having brass bands we are having live music all day.

"All profits from any of our functions go back into the club towards improvements and refurbishments. Over the last 2 years we have spent a lot on creating two comfy lounges and fully refurbished the ladies loos."

Terry added "It is an event we put on to try and let people from the village and surrounding areas come and see our Club and facilities and hopefully join us. We only charge £3 entry (including a glass) to make it affordable to everyone and hope this fee will cover the entertainment."

The Alderley Edge Micro Beer Festival will take place from 12noon to 12 midnight at the Union Club on Stevens Street on Saturday, 27th June.

The Union Club is a non profit business and is owned by the members.

This sounds like the makings of a seriously good evening out and we're now trying to re-arrange plans so that we can be there.

We've been lucky enough to see (Guitar) George Barowski a couple of times at The Yard and he is absolutely brilliant!

He's played with many top bands as a session musician and he's seriously talented. Better still, if he starts on some of the many anecdotes drawn from years of hauling his guitar around the world....... a real treat.
