General Election: Liberal Democrats' Candidate Gareth Wilson

portrait 2

Local residents will have the choice of five candidates when they go to the polls for the General Election on Thursday, May 7th.

Candidates for the Tatton Constituency are: Stuart Hutton (UKIP), George Osborne (Conservative Party), David Pinto-Duschinsky (Labour Party), Tina Rothery (Green Party) and Gareth Wilson(Liberal Democrats).

In recent weeks I have been publishing brief interviews with each of the candidates.

My final one is for Gareth Wilson the Liberal Democrats' Candidate for the Tatton Constituency. To read the interviews with other candidates click on the 'General Election' tag at the bottom of the article.

Gareth Wilson, the only candidate that lives in the constituency, was brought up in the area and currently lives in Mobberley with his wife and two young children.

He has a background in Economics and is a Design Director of a software company.

Speaking about his involvement with local politics, Gareth said "I have organised the residents of Mobberley into a group of over 500 activists who campaigned to get a development of almost 400 homes rejected that had no plan for traffic, schools or GP services.

"Plans to charge for parking at Knutsford Hospital and the Congleton War Memorial Hospital were scrapped after I intervened and presented a petition of over 1000 signatures and as a Broadband Champion I was involved in Connecting Cheshire, a project to bring fibre broadband to areas with limited Internet across the constituency.

"I am also organising a petition campaign to get Cheshire East to pay the Living Wage to all its staff, especially care workers."

If elected as Tatton's MP, Gareth said he will:

• Fight to protect green spaces and Cheshire villages from over development across the constituency, due to the Tory council's failed local planning process

• Hold local NHS services to account from access to GP's and the quality of services at Macclesfield Hospital through to continue to campaign on hospital parking charge

• Provide effective opposition to Cheshire East council, who through years of Tory neglect are letting Tatton residents down through poor social services, elderly care and children's services.
