Following on from the successful Search for a Star campaign last year, Physiofit in Alderley Edge is offering to sponsor another up and coming athlete with free access to all our sports performance services including physio, strength and conditioning, running analysis/coaching and mentoring.

From over 50 applicants, last year's winner was hockey player, Issy Reynold's Duffy from Wilmslow High School who has benefitted enormously from the programme becoming stronger and more confident both physically and mentally. Issy gained her place in Alderley Edge Hockey Club's Ladies 1st XI as one of the youngest players and helped the u16 side to reach the National finals. She was awarded the 1st XI Most Improved Player and she represented the North of England at the prestigious Future's Cup. Her progress this year ensures her future looks very bright.

Physiofit in Alderley Edge is a well established centre of excellence with over 23 years of experience in developing young growing athletes. We have over 12 athletes who have recently gone on to represent their country after receiving physio and strength and conditioning programmes from our team. Physiofit director, Angie Jackson says "Our aim is to ensure that all our athletes can reach their sporting potential with a body that is strong and robust enough to withstand the demands of sport at the highest level. We cannot guarantee that all children will play for their country but we can guarantee giving them the best possible chance to reach their sporting potential.

Glen Davies, the lead physio on Search for Star 2015 is very much looking for a local sporting star. The child must live within 10 miles of the clinic and can be from any sport but must be aged 12-17 on the 31st December 2014. He says "At Physiofit we are passionate about everything we do and are looking for athletes who will work hard, have a passion for their sport, have the drive and determination to succeed and who are committed to becoming the best they can be. If you know a young athlete who would benefit from this opportunity then please ask them to apply."

Glen describes what the chosen athlete will be taken through during their programme. "Our developing athlete programme starts with our sport specific screening to identify key movement faults, flexibility issues and areas of weakness. This enables us to identify areas that are at risk of injury and areas that are limiting technical improvement."

Jenna Hill, our Sports rehabilitator then takes the athlete for a series of 1:1 sessions developing agility, strength and better movement patterns. The athlete will also receive a biomechanical running technique analysis and coaching to improve speed and endurance.

England cricketer, Michael Vaughan will once again be part of the panel of judges and with the calibre of applicants who entered last year it will not be an easy choice. Entries are now being taken and the closing date is 1st June 2015.

For details of how to apply and to receive an application form with full terms and conditions please email [email protected] or visit the website www.physiofit.co.uk.
