Weekly free parkrun comes to Wilmslow

PARKRUNARTILEISE

The inaugural Wilmslow free community parkrun took place in The Carrs on Saturday, 11th April.

Organised entirely by volunteers, the new event saw 175 runners complete the 5k run against the clock.

The parkrun will take place every Saturday in The Carrs park at 9am and is for runners of all standards.

Member of the Core Team Trev Morris explained "It is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan.

"It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE!"

Taking part is easy – just register before your first ever parkrun. You only ever need to do this once and there is no limit to the number of runners who can take part.

Runners are asked to bring a printed copy of their barcode because if you forget it you won't get a time.

Trev added "Whether you are a complete novice looking to get yourself started on your own "running journey" or a seasoned athlete wanting to use this as a part of your training schedule, you're welcome to come along and join us."

Wilmslow parkrun needs more volunteers, email [email protected] if you are interested in helping.

There are currently 319 parkruns in the UK with over 66,000 runners and 5,000 volunteers every Saturday, and there are 12 parkruns with approximately. 2,500 runners and 200 volunteers a week within 14 miles of Wilmslow.
