Girls take on royal roles for 2015 May Fair

Organisers of the Alderley Edge May Fair have selected this year's May Fair Queen, Rose Queen and princesses.

Six-year-old Amy Evans who goes to Alderley Edge Community Primary School was nominated by her mum and dad and has been selected as the May Queen.

Christine Munro, organiser of the Alderley Edge May Fair, said "She is a very caring little girl, who adores animals and loves looking after her little baby sister and helping her mummy and daddy."

Eleanor Whitlow aged 14 from Gatley has been chosen as the Rose Queen. She will be accompanied by two princess, Nicole Reeves aged 9 and Hannah Reeves aged 7 who attend Alderley Edge School for Girls.

Eleanor, who goes to The Kingsway School, said "I am really looking forward to the whole experience because it is completely new and it will be a really lovely day."

Christine Munro, organiser of the Alderley Edge May Fair, said "Eleanor was nominated by me. She is a very courageous young lady who despite serious health problems thinks of others before herself and always has a lovely smile for everyone.

"Hannah and Nicole are two lovely young ladies who were chosen by me. They are very polite and gentle little girls who are a delight to know."

On the day Amy, Eleanor, Nicole, Hannah will have a pamper session with the hairdresser prior to climbing into the glass coach and joining the procession through the village and into the park. They will then go onto our stage to declare the May Fair officially open.

Christine explained "The first entertainment in the arena will be Titan the Robot and the queens and princesses will welcome him to Alderley Edge and help him entertain everyone. They will help with the fancy dress competition choosing, the winners and have lots of photos taken on the park.

Amy's mother Melody Ashcroft said "She's absolutely over the moon. She really deserves it. I had a little one in January last year and she's been the best big sister. It will be lovely for her to be the centre of attention for a change."

The 5th Alderley Edge May Fair will take place on Saturday 16th May from 11am to 5pm - so keep the date free as it is sure to be another fantastic day for the community.

New for this year we have The National Festival joining bringing their Big Top into the park for the first time. Also Titan the Robot will be coming from Cornwall and prior to the parade we will have the wheelbarrow race through the village.

Also this year a Donkey Derby will be run in the arena several times throughout the day giving everyone will have the chance to have a go.

Once again, entertainment will kick off in the park on the Friday evening with an Open Mic session, a crown green bowling match, a fun run, and lots more entertainments as well as food and drink to keep everyone going. The evening starts at 7pm and finishes at 10pm.

Christine added "Every year we have tried to bring something different to the May Fair and this year we have really tried to pull out all the stops so everyone has a wonderful time."
