According to a report by New World Wealth, Alderley Edge is home to 700 high-net-worth-individuals (HNWI) whose assets are worth more than $1 million, excluding the value of their main home.

Alderley Edge is ranked 11th amongst the top small towns (with a population of less than 30,000) for millionaire residents in 2013.

Towns in the London commuter belt dominate the list, with Windsor and Weybridge joint top with 1300 HNWI residents, but Hale also appears one spot above Alderley Edge with 800 HNWIs living there.

At the end of 2013, there were approximately 840,000 HNWIs living in the United Kingdom, with a combined wealth of $3.5 trillion - which is nearly 38% of the UK's total wealth of $9.3 trillion.

This had decreased by 1.2% between 2007 and 2013, despite a migration of over 30,000 HNWIs into the UK during that period, because of a depreciation of the pound against the US dollar, falling equity and property prices. However, the number of UK HNWIs is forecast to grow by 18%, to reach approximately 988,000 by 2017.

London is home to the largest portion of UK HNWIs with 376,600 but there are also sizeable HNWI populations living in Edinburgh (28,100) and Manchester (23,100).

According to the report 4.5% of residents in both London and Manchester are HNWIs, whilst in Edinburgh the concentration is higher with 5.8% of residents having assets over $1 million.

The latest figures, from the 2011 Census, showed that the Alderley Edge Ward has a population of 4,638. So if all 700 HNWIs live in the ward then the population density of dollar millionaires would be 15%.
