Nominate your 2015 May Fair King and Queen

Once again the organisers of the Alderley Edge May Fair are looking for a May Fair King and Queen, who will take part in the Parade on Saturday 16th May.

Harriet Hill, who has recently taken over from Christine Munro as Chair of the May Fair explained: "In each of the last two years we have had a May Queen, who has been accompanied by two attendants. We know who this year's two attendants will be, but we still need a May Queen and, if possible, a May King as well!"

Paul Marshal has become Vice Chair of the May Fair, replacing Geoff Hall, and he outlined what the May Fair organisers are looking for: "Our ideal May King and Queen will be children who have in some way served as an inspiration to others. For example they may have gone out of their way to show kindness to other people, for example by supporting family, friends or even strangers who they've never met. Perhaps they have shown special qualities in coping with illness, disability or other difficulties.

"We hope that local residents from Alderley Edge and its surrounding areas will come forward with nominations. I am sure your readers will know lots of reasons to be proud of our children, whether it be for their kindness, for their concern and care, or for their courage, and we want to give them a exciting day to honour them."

Nominated children should ideally be aged six to eleven years old and live in Alderley Edge or the surrounding area.

The winner or winners will take part in the May Fair Parade, riding in a horse drawn carriage. The Parade is led by the Wizard and a white horse, and the May King and Queen will travel through the village from the Chorley Hall Lane Playing Field down to Alderley Edge Park, where there will be lots of attractions, including fairground rides, zorb balls, donkey rides, miniature ponies, bouncy castles and a climbing wall. When the Parade reaches the park the May King and Queen will officially declare the May Fair open.

Please submit your nominations by 30th March either by email to harriet@cheshirecatevents or sent to the Alderley Edge May Fair Committee, c/o Cheshire Cat Events, Union Building, Stevens St, Alderley Edge, Cheshire SK9 7NL.
