The Ryleys School has today opened its doors to its very first intake of girls - 22 in total, out of a new intake of 41 pupils. The girls have joined the school from the nursery classes up to year 2 (ages 3 to 6/7 years) and are the first ever girls to attend the school since it was founded in 1877.

“The education at The Ryleys is first class and we have an excellent reputation in a number of areas; music, sport and the arts for example - and we see no reason why girls as well as boys should not benefit from the high quality of teaching,” said Pat Barrett, Headmaster, The Ryleys.

“We have been preparing boys very successfully for entry into the North West’s independent grammar schools for many years now and are excited to be able to extend this preparation to girls too. We have received numerous requests over the years for younger female siblings to attend the school and no longer feel justified in refusing them."

“We are all very excited by the first day and are looking forward enormously to welcoming the first girls into The Ryleys,” concluded Pat Barrett.
