New landlords aim to create 'a leading local pub'

New landlords will be taking over the tenancy of a village pub this month and marking the occasion with a parade of Shire horses through Alderley Edge.

On Saturday 17th January, Wilmslow born Katie Bancroft and her partner Philip Daley will be marking the reopening of the Drum and Monkey - where they plan to offer an array of local dishes, Robinson's beers and finest wines.

Katie, who has led the expansion of her human resources and recruitment business in Wilmslow during the last 5 years, brings her local knowledge and passion for local business success. Whilst her partner Philip, who is from Cambridge, has a track record of transforming pubs nationwide - including brands Premium Country Dining Pubs and Village Pub and Kitchen as well as a number of independents.

Katie said "We believe that there is a real need in Alderley for a traditional, locally sourced, great food pub. The Drum and Monkey matches our personal and professional ambitions for the area to support local businesses through using their produce and promoting provenance.

"By providing local residents and businesses with great food, beer and wine, matched with regular events and entertainment, our aim is to reinstate the Drum and Monkey as a leading local pub within Cheshire."

The new era for the Drum and Monkey is scheduled to be marked by a parading of Shire horses through the village between 2pm and 3.30pm on Saturday 14th January.

This will be followed by an evening event at the pub from 7pm, where guests will be served a complimentary drink on arrival and mini samples from the new menu. There will also be live music and prize draws following the event, offering people the opportunity to win bottles of wine and meals at the pub.

The Drum and Monkey will be closed from Wednesday, 7th January, reopening from the 14th for local residents to meet the couple ahead of the formal opening.

Anyone wishing to attend the evening event on Saturday 17th January should email [email protected].

This is good news.
We have stopped going to The Drum and Monkey over the last couple of years as it had lost it's warm, friendly atmosphere (through no fault of the lovely staff).
I look forward to re-visiting now new landlords are taking over the tenancy and would like to wish Kate and Philip the very best of luck.

Great news. I had a horrible feeling it was going the way of the Royal Oak. I'm looking forward to walking through your back gate again. Good luck.

Like a phoenix from the ashes, the re-birth of this fine establishment, (which after all is the only ‘true’ historic pub left in the village) is very much awaited.!!! James Lavin and his brother left this to the last custodians in good shape, and with the exception of the great staff, I was surprised how the atmosphere and ambiance slowly dissipated. The starting point to succeed is desire, Katie and Phil seem to have demonstrated that here, I wish them the very best in this venture and look forward to visiting soon !.
