A rising star from Great Warford has won two lead roles in the Christmas production of Shrek The Musical.

Nine-year-old Ruby Callaghan is playing both Young Shrek and Grumpy the dwarf at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, while also rehearsing as Young Fiona's understudy.

Ruby is a member of the Stagecoach Theatre School in Wilmslow and started performing aged only six-years-old. She won her place against 75 other young hopefuls after a series of auditions.

She said: "I was fairly nervous on the first night, well actually very nervous, but once you get on stage you just start enjoying every minute. It's been a wonderful experience."

Ruby added: "I would love to go to drama school and ultimately work in musical theatre. I want to work in the West End or even Broadway."
