Tributes paid to beloved verger

Members of St Philip & St James Church, were saddened to hear about the recent death of their beloved verger Co Tod.

In fact he will be greatly missed by many residents of Alderley, as Co played an important role in the community.

He had been the verger since 1984, when Canon Brian Young appointed him shortly after he came to St Philips in 1983.

The job of a verger varies in different Churches, and Co's work at St Philips was extensive. He did everything to ensure the smooth running of the Church and Parish Rooms. And was involved with all aspects of the Church , from linen and brass cleaning, locking and unlocking the Church every day, looking after Parish Rooms and Vicarage garden, the list is endless.

He always said the best bit of his job was the fellowship: he enjoyed chatting with everyone, was fantastic at welcoming people into the Church and never forgot a face or name. He greeted everyone with his cheery smile and we will sorely miss his presence and reassurance around the Church.

Vicar Revd Jane Parry said 'His passing has left a big gap for us, in our lives, in our church and in our village. He was a good and kind friend to so many people and there is no question, he was a man of faith, and he lived his life as a true Christian".

His funeral, celebrating his life and ministry, will take place at St Philip & St James Church on Wednesday 3rd December 2014 at 1pm.

A very sad day for a lot of people, for a man so small in stature he leaves a very big gap in many peoples lives. RIP Co.

Co was a wonderful man. I particularly remember how much he gave above and beyond the call of duty to St Philip's Brownies and to our youth Drama Group. As is said above, a true gentleman, and one who lived out his christian beliefs
