Final preparations are underway for the Wilmslow Christmas lights switch on, to mark the official launch of the festive season in the town.

Wilmslow Town Council decided to make a number of changes this year, most notably to move the event to a Saturday, rather than a Thursday.

This year the event will take place on a Saturday, 29th November, to enable the proceedings to start and end earlier, so the younger children can also enjoy the celebrations.

Performances in Bank Square will commence at 1.30pm with a number of acoustic bands taking to the stage followed by Wilmslow Rock Choir and Lindow Primary School Choir.

The reindeer will also be available to view from 2.30pm in the gardens by Wilmslow Library and the parade will set off at 4pm. Santa and his reindeer will proceed along the service road from Costa Coffee to Sainsbury's before travelling down Alderley Road and Grove Street to finish at Bank Square.

In addition to starting the reindeer parade earlier there will be a shorter interval between the arrival of the reindeers and the switching on of the lights which will happen about 4.45pm by Ted Robbins, known as Den Perry from Phoenix Nights, and the cast of Cinderella.

Matthew Jackson of Wilmslow Town Council, said "The reindeer are always very popular and this year can be seen outside the library from 2.30pm prior to their parade at 4pm, we are delighted that Ted Robins (The Slammer) and fellow cast members of Cinderella (Stockport Plaza) will be waiting in Bank Square to switch on the lights when Santa arrives."

The Christmas lights switch on will be proceeded by the first ever Wilmslow Santa Dash which will see up to 250 Santas running, jogging or walking their way around the 3.5km course through the Carrs, starting at 2pm. A Santa suit and goodie bag is included for each participant. Click here to register. Proceeds will go to Food Friend, helping to brighten Christmas for the those in need.

Also with St Bartholomew's Church hosting the annual Christmas Tree Festival from Friday 28th November to Sunday 30th November, there's plenty to keep the whole family entertained in Wilmslow over the weekend.
