Olympian coaches youngsters at The Edge

England and Great Britain International Hockey player and Olympic bronze medalist Sam Quek helped out at this weeks boys under 13's coaching session at Alderley Edge Hockey Club.

Sam took time from her busy training schedule to teach the boys tackling techniques and showed them her Olympic bronze medal won at London 2012.

The clubs local Community Coach Kelvin Briggs said "Sam is an inspirational hockey athlete and the boys just loved her specialist coaching session. She has such enthusiasm for hockey and loves passing on her knowledge and skills to the next generation of Olympians."

Sam is off to Mendoza, Argentina to play in the Champions trophy in a few days time hoping to add to her medal collection. In addition to Olympic bronze, Sam has won silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, silver at the 2013 EuroHockey Championships, bronze at the 2013 World League Final and silver at the 2012 Champions Trophy .

Sam will be returning to the Edge in 2015 to work on some of the clubs 'Hockey Camp' programme. Alderley Edge Hockey Club runs 16 days of camps each year and has a reputation for developing young players.

Kelvin commented "This season nine children played for the North of England at the Futures Cup and three have been selected to attend final England trials. Visits from elite athletes like Sam helps our juniors to be the best they can be. Perhaos there is a new star about to emerge to follow in Sam's footsteps."
