A tea dance held by the Alderley Edge Branch of the Royal British Legion, to mark the First World War Centenary, has been hailed a big success.

The Festival Hall was packed on the afternoon of Sunday 26th October for the dance which raised £920 towards this year's Alderley Edge Poppy Appeal.

Cllr Mary Maczkowiak said "We are delighted as last year we raised £500.

"The atmosphere was fantastic this year and I have not seen the hall as full for a long time. People attended from as far afield as Oldham and Wales, as well as local people."

In addition to tea and cake, guests enjoyed a raffle, licensed bar and entertainment provided by DJ GI Jive who played a section of music from the 30s, 40s and 50s.

So sorry you were unable to come to the Tea Dance, Sandy, you missed a great time. Also thank you, Lisa, for advertising our Dance in the first place and letting everyone know how much we raised for the Poppy Appeal. The Royal British Legion work hard for our Service men and women - I know from personal experience when my son was out in Bosnia. Better boots were finally issued to the boys after my son had complained to a R.B.Legion volunteer how terrible their boots were compared to the Americans. Lets hope for an even bigger dance next year!
