Oxjam Festival ends on a high note

The inaugural Alderley Edge Oxfam festival ended on a high note with a Grand Finale at the Festival Hall on Friday, 24th October.

Children and adults took to the stage in two separate open mic competitions hosted by Sadie Pickering and Tom Hill from The Yard.

They competed to impress the judging panel of Chas Smash from Madness, vocal coach Ruth Moore and Hollyoaks actor and singer Ashley Taylor Dawson - with the Sassy Sisters and Lauryn Davies winning the Mini Mic.

Winner of the adult's section was Charlotte Moore who performed her own version of Bruce Springsteen's 'Dancing In The Dark' to win a recording session at Castle Rock Studios.

Other performers on the night included George Marshall, Suzy De Beer and Jordan Roberts, Carissa Weatherby, Pete Daniel on the Dulcimer, Kim & Hannah, Phil Cochrane, Tobias Antonio Gordon, Tom Ramsbottom and Kimmy Beatbox.

Guests were then entertained by Cathal Smyth (aka Chas Smash), who performed two songs from his latest album 'A comfortable man', Manchester soul legend Dougie James and DJ Edwin Sinclair.

An auction and raffle were also held to help take the total raised for Oxfam to over £1000.

Organiser Sadie Pickering said "I'm so thrilled with how the first Oxjam Alderley Festival has gone. Everyone has been talking about it and it feels great to have something that offers a platform to our talented local musicians.

"This was just the beginning. Next year I hope to involve more businesses and schools and have the calendar planned by summer so we can promote it on an even wider scale. So 100% there will definitely be an Oxjam Alderley 2015."
