The Ryleys School will be attending this week's RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park to take part in the Cheshire schools growing competition; "The Wonderful World of Vegetables".

With no less than 50 brightly coloured Wellington boots planted with all kinds of vegetables. The competition stipulates that vegetables must be planted in recyclable containers and be planted from seed.

"We've got the whole Junior School; Reception through to year two, planting seeds in the Wellington boots the children have brought into school," said Annette Jacobsen, who, together with Sue Jenkins, takes the children for gardening sessions throughout the year in the school allotment.

"The boys really enjoy planting, caring for and eating the crops. We have planted all kinds of varieties of vegetables and edible flowers in various colours and sizes of Wellingtons, there are carrots, aubergines, tomatoes, cauliflowers, lettuce and courgettes to name but a few."

The competition is voted for by the general public over the course of the show and results will be announced on the final day of the show.
