Parish Council works on parking strategy

Alderley Edge Parish Council is working on a parking strategy for the whole village.

Having recently met with Cllr David Topping Portfolio Holder for Service Commissioning (responsible for the new commissioning approach to service delivery), Cllr Mike Williamson explained "We discussed the opportunity we have now by moving forward with the car park on Heyes Lane to extend that to a proper parking strategy for the whole village."

A number of items were discussed at their meeting, including changing South Street car park to a shorter term car park, adding more double yellow lines and tackling some of the anti-social parking in areas like Ryleys Lane and Lynton Lane.

Cllr Williamson added "In addition we are continuing to pressure Cheshire East to review the resident parking scheme on Clifton Street because we have, as far as we are concerned, evidence that shows that at particular times the parking is unused and there is the opportunity for short term parking during the day for shoppers.

"We will continue to progress this over the next 15 months or so as the construction of the medical centre and the refurbishment of the hall gets us to a point where we can actually go ahead with Heyes Lane and create a new car park."

Cllr Melanie Connor commented "It was very nice to hear the positivity from Cllr Topping on the car park and issues with parking in the village and his concern for traders and for residents and their ability to shop and to get their shopping go home and have a good quality of life against those of the very few."

Cllr Mike Williamson added "We are working over a 12 to 15 month period to develop a proper strategy so we can implement a lot of these ideas."

With regard to Lynton Lane. Councillor Topping assured me that a consultation with the residents was underway. I advised him that the residents has been 'consulted to death' already. I also informed him that his Highways Officers had already produced a plan and that all that was needed was to get the work done NOW.
I also asked him when the work on Eaton Drive would be done; Eaton Drive did not seem to be on the list that he had with him. Again I told him that his Highways Officers had already agreed to a plan; but it wasn't prioritised.
I am sure that Councillor Topping will have been looking into the situation since the meeting.

Marc Asquith, are you going to put your mouth where your heart is and maybe stand for election if that is possible? Doing, what I believe to be unpaid work, and standing on a pedestal waiting to be knocked off.
Maybe you could sort the parking problems of Alderley Edge, for instance removing the parking restrictions outside Tesco! but be prepared for people to have a go at you, for doing what you think is best for Alderley Edge, never thanked for getting it right, but surely lambasted when deemed to be wrong.
