Plans for Alderley Edge memorial garden

cemetery

Initial plans are coming together to create a memorial garden in Alderley Edge cemetery.

Cheshire East Council is working with Alderley Edge Parish Council, Orbitas (who manage bereavement services), and representatives of of The Friends of the Cemetery and the probation service to create a special area, which will be located about half way up the cemetery on the left hand side.

Work has been carried out by the probation services to cut back the whole area and a team is going to clear the site and level it. An existing metal shed will also be removed and once the area is clear the layout will be decided.

The initial plan is to divide the memorial garden so two thirds is allocated to adults and one third will be a special children's area.

Cllr Melanie Connor, who is working on the project with councillors Duncan Herald and Sue Jospeh, said "The Parish Council is pleased to be working with CEC and others on this project, which will be a beautiful and peaceful area within the cemetery."

The project is being funded by Cheshire East Council.

The first I knew of this idea was when the excellent C.E. Officer (aka 'Orbitas' lady)
Chris. Heathcote approached us.
Allthough there is not yet a Parish Council approval (only because we haven't yet had a monthly meeting to talk about it) the three Parish Councillors who have been 'working' on the cemetery, for some time, with 'Orbitas', went along and met with Chris. and Georgina Speake (who chairs the 'Friends of the Cemetery'), at the cemetery.
The piece of land concerned is 'wild' at the moment and so no disturbance to existing graves.
All is still at the planning stage but hopefully will go ahead.
Anyone who would like to help/support, tell us please.
At the moment, there is investigation of what, where and when; welcome if you wish to support/join in.

A little more info.
The remains which would be stored in a Memorial Garden are the cremated remains of the deceased. Te remains are placed in a 'Cinerary urn' and this in turn is put into the 'columbarium'.
