Local residents are rallying round to raise supplies for Manchester Dogs Home following last night's tragic fire which claimed the lives of at least 43 dogs.
Lucy Allen, of Oakfield Close, is collecting as much food and blankets as possible to be taken down to the Cheshire Dogs Home next weekend. People can either drop of donations at her home or she will be arranging a collection day to drive around and pick up any donations as possible. For further information call Lucy on 07809351905.
The Wizard tearooms in Nether Alderley have also put out a plea for people to drop off being blankets, dog beds, food, leads or money for Manchester Dogs Home.
Whilst Sainsbury's in Wilmslow are gathering together donations of dog food, which will be collected at 6.00pm this evening.
Harper and Quinn hairdressers on Alderley Road, Wilmslow are also acting as a drop off point for people to drop in food, blankets, toys etc which again will be taken at 6pm this evening.
Firefighters battled difficult conditions to save 150 dogs after the fire broke out at the building just after 7pm on Thursday, September 11th.
Four crews attended the building in Moss Brook Road, Manchester, where they were faced with a rapidly developing fire involving one wing of the home.
Firefighters worked throughout the night to bring the fire under control and stop it spreading to the remainder of the building.
Working with the owners, the crew managed to rescue 150 animals while fighting the fire in three different sectors. Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved 43 dogs are believed to have died as a result of the fire.
Station Manager Paul Duggan said: "Around 30 firefighters were called to tackle the fire that involved a complex building at the dogs home. Crew did a fantastic job in tackling the fire and rescued a number of dogs.
"We were also greeted by crowds of people at the scene wanting to help and as a result a number of drop-off centres have been put in place, including close by Christ Church and GMFRS' Community Event Vehicle is parked near to the home where people can leave donations. However, people are asked to use the Just Giving site set up if they want to give money."
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) remains at Manchester Dogs' Home today (Friday, September 12) offering support, advice and reassurance to the community following a severe fire.

A 15-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of arson remains in police custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Neil Jones, said: "The response from the public has been overwhelming and this is clearly an incident that has tugged on the heart strings of many.
"A number of people, including police officers and staff were quickly on the scene and put their life on the line to help with the rescue effort.
"We are determined to establish exactly how and why this fire started and will be working closely with our partners from the fire service.
"As part of the investigation a 15-year-old boy has been arrested and he will be spoken to throughout the course of the day.
"If anyone has any information about this fire I would encourage them to contact us.
"Our switchboard, like social media has been overrun with people wanting to help and I would ask people to not call the police unless they have information about the investigation or those responsible.
"Anyone wanting to donate items such as food and blankets can do so by bringing them to the north Manchester police headquarters. A Justgiving page has also been set up for anyone wanting to donate cash.
