Have you changed your parking habits?

It’s ten months since the traffic wardens were introduced to Alderley Edge on May 14th 2008. We know that in the first 5 months 1303 penalty tickets were handed out in the village but it will be interesting to see what the figures are come May 14th this year. For the first few months you could barely walk down the high street without seeing tickets slapped on several windscreens and at least one traffic warden patrolling the streets but after the initial period of adjustment will the figures have dropped as people’s habits change? Have the ever present traffic wardens and the threat of a £30 fine changed your parking habits?

To be honest, I have definitely changed my parking habits in the village and always ensure that I never exceed the 60 min slot if parking on the road and/or ensure that I display a ticket if parking in the parade car park. In fact, my vigilance in this area is such that I was astounded to return from holiday to find a notice of a fine for failure to pay a parking ticket on my doormat. Not only had I never actually received a parking ticket on my vehicle (or PCN as they call it) but am adament that a pay and display ticket was displayed, although for obvious reasons I have since disposed of the ticket on account of me having no reason to retain it! On advising the council of this they advised that they had heard of recent cases of people removing the PCN's from vehicles so that the owners are never aware of them....how bizarre!!! I'm now going through an appeals process, not least on the grounds of a technicality as the notice states that I should have paid the fine relating to a PCN served on 10th March, by the end of Feb ...how confusing!!
Has anyone else had a similar experience??!!

Nothing similar from me I am afraid. Although I don't live as close to the village as you, Jo, I tend to walk to the village. I had a wander up to London Road this morning, but it was very quiet, so I just took a couple of PCNs from a Range Rover and a Fiat and jogged home.

Drivers are getting caught out on the Parade/Somerfield car park (as I did) which has a limit of 2 hours parking at any one time. But the ticket machine will issue tickets for 10 hours, thus fooling you into thinking you are parking legally. I failed to read the sign correctly as this machine also issues tickets for the West street car park which allows up to 10 hours parking. Doh! I should have realised the ticket machine in the Parade car park is actually there to issue tickets for West Street car park!! I have been parking in Alderley Edge for 19 years now, I should have known that by now!!
