Hockey: Alderley Edge youngsters enjoy International summer

Eng u18

Three of Alderley Edge Hockey Club's young stars have been enjoying the off season by representing England at various age group levels.

Callum Middleton has been training with the England U16 boys and got a taste of international action when he took the field against representative players over from Ireland. The three games were all won by England, 1-0, 1-0 and 7-2.

Andrew Jackson battled back from injury at the start of the international fixtures to make the U18 Boys squad for the test matches against Belgium in July. The first match finished 4-4 and the second a 2-1 win for England.

The busiest player has been Helena Evans, who has fought her way from the training squad into the team for games versus the Irish (4-1, 3-1 and 3-2 wins) and then the successful test match series in Antwerp against Belgium and also playing in the 5 Nations tournament this week.

England competed well throughout against extremely tough opposition and beat Belgium in their opener 1-0, but went down to Holland, Germany and Spain. It was a great tournament for Helena and she was named England player of the tournament by her teammates.

A great experience was had by all three as they look to continue their hockey journeys.
