Alderley girls enjoy Science Spectacular

The Science Spectacular certainly promised to be an exciting day with the timetable of events that were planned for Reception to Year 6 on Thursday, 19th June.

Mrs Davison, Science Co-ordinator, explained "Our day went off with a bang with a whole school assembly from the Mad Science Company. This was an interactive hour of booms and pops hosted by 'Titanium Tilly'!

"Twenty parents and helpers were involved in the carousel of activities and experiments that were tailored to suit different age groups."

Years 1 and 2 enjoyed practical activities such as chromatography, fingerprinting, cabbage magic and tones of sound. Whilst Years 3 and 4 were treated to practical sessions about optical illusions, plant life cycles, making slime and bridge building - enabling the girls to get messy, go outside, make 3D dragons and test their skills at building bridges.

Years 5 and 6 experienced some more difficult science. They made their 'own lungs', watched teeth being filled, extracted DNA from a banana, made 'sweet microbes', tested acids found in the home, learnt about the science of gels and even got to listen to the heartbeat and bandage the legs of Mrs Merry's real, live dog!

Mrs Davison added "The parents made our Science Spectacular a fantastic day for all the children (and teachers)and we are extremely grateful for the time and effort that they put in."
