Watch out the scarecrows are about!

Some fabulous straw creations are starting to appear in Wilmslow town centre ready for the launch of the 2014 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival tomorrow (Wednesday 25th June).

Scarecrows of all shapes and sizes can be found hanging out on the streets, on display in shops windows, lurking in hidden corners and even positioned high on the rooftops.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean and Wilmslow Business Group this annual event brings lots of colour and fun to the town centre, as well as attracting plenty of visitors to Wilmslow during the 19-day event.

The festival ties in with Wilmslow's entry into the 2014 In Bloom competition, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with a 'Growing for Gold' theme - so many of the scarecrows have been given a golden touch!

New for this year, the Rotary scarecrow 'Recycled Ruth' is launching her own Selfie Photo Competition. From 25th June to 12th July, she will be popping up here, there and everywhere around the town for people to capture a prize winning 'Selfie' with her.

Email your selfie (high resolution please) to [email protected] for our gallery and the one judged to be the best will receive prize draw tickets and the chance to win a selection of great prizes, including a two day break in a luxury holiday home in Yorkshire.

Forms and maps for the Scarecrow Treasure Hunt will be available shortly from Wheeldon Opticians on Hawthorn Lane.

Above is a selection of scarecrows I spotted on my travels yesterday, we will be adding to the gallery during the course of the festival, as more scarecrows descend on the town.
