Alderley Edge Oxjam Festival

Alderley Edge is hosting their first ever Oxjam Takeover Festival.

A series of live performances and workshops will be taking place across the village from Thursday 9th to Friday 24th October.

Thursday 9th at 7.30pm: The Yard's Oxjam Open Mic

With its ever increasing list of diverse performers from near and far this evening is a feast of live music and spontaneity showcasing amazing talent.

Sunday 12th at 8pm: The Bubble Room, Live Music from 'Cousin William'

The guitar singing duo that always get everyone up dancing!

Monday 13th at 7.30pm: 'The Hokum Hotshots' Yard Sessions

One of the UKs finest acoustic blues musicians. This legendary duo from Newcastle will be performing a set of good-time blues, with hilarious banter and a big dose of musical artistry.

Wednesday 15th at 1pm: Alderley Edge Methodist Church Lunchtime Concert

Celebrating their 10th anniversary with a concert performed by students from Chetham's School of Music. The recital will feature George Herbert on the trumpet, Pip Elmer on the oboe, violinists Edward Holmes and August Janonyte, and the programme will finish with three organ pieces played by George Warren.

Wednesday 15th at 6.30pm: The Yard 'Mini Mic' Night

Run by the talented Catherine Taylor Dawson. This is an opportunity where young performers can be nurtured and encouraged to perform. If your child is wanting to perform at The Festival Finale this would be the perfect way to build up confidence. If you'd like to sign up email [email protected]

Friday 17th at 10.40am Alderley Edge Hockey Club

Sadie Pickering will be performing a couple of songs in the Shed.

Friday 17th at 12 noon Dance Jam

The whole village can get involved in this one – its very simple - at 12 noon its Dance Jam where we all stop and take 5 minutes to dance. Feel free to set this up in your office/shop/school/ or just dance in the street ! Instagram / Tweet / youtube your #OxjamAlderleyDance – they'll screen them throughout the rest of the festival on the yard big screen during normal café opening hours.

Chess will be hosting an Office Oxjam lunchtime gig.

Saturday 18th: The Biggie!!

This day will consist of busking in the street and a live music trail with performers in local shops/businesses including a special treat with the local sports team Mascots.

Sunday 19th: The Botanist – Live Music from 'Kim and Hannah'

Tuesday 21st 3.30-5pm: – Patchwork Quilt Project and Afternoon Tea at The Yard

Anne Hillier, local Oxfam volunteer has been creating a fabulous patches of using recycled clothes with embroidered logos of local businesses and establishments significant to Alderley Edge since March this year. Come along to create your own patch.

Friday 24th: The Grand Finale

This is going to be a very special evening for Alderley really celebrating all the local talent from all ages in the village.

In the style of The Yards regular Open Mics this evening will have extra flare with a panel including music industry professionals and celebrity host. 

The Grand Finale is in 2 separate events.

6pm - Mini Mic Finale:

The young performers section is from 6-7.30pm with an open mic, panel of judges and prizes for the winners. Carl Smyth aka Chas Smash from Madness will be on the panel.

8.30pm - The Adult Open Mic / Dougie James:

Open Mic for adults followed by a few songs from Cathal Smyth (aka Chas Smash from Madness) and our headline act giving us a throw back to Yesterdays, Dougie James, with Edwin Sinclair who will DJ till 1am.

These are non ticketed events – sourdough pizzas will be available to buy and there will be a fully licensed bar.
