Alderley Edge Christmas Lights Switch On

Thursday, 20th Nov, 2014 5:00pm til 10:00pm

London Road will be closed to traffic so the festivities can spread right down the centre of the village.

The lights will be switched on by television presenter and actor Les Dennis, who is currently playing Michael Rodwell in Coronation Street and presented Family Fortunes for 15 years. He will be joined by Heart FM DJ Lorna Bancroft.

They will be assisted in the task by Leila Vigerstaff from Year 3 at Alderley Edge Primary School and Florry Perry from Year 1 at Alderley Edge School for Girls, the two winners of the school's poster competition.

For the first time there be will be a Christmas down London Road, from outside the library down to Stevens Street, with 40 stalls offering a variety of goods including local food, wine and beer, crafts, greetings cards and gifts, pottery, clothing and jewellery. The market will be on from 5pm so there will be plenty of time for browsing and buying both before and after the Christmas lights switch on.

There will also be a stage where the crowds will be entertained with live performances, including a Christmas sing-a-long with Paul Pashley followed by open mic performances from a variety of local acts.

There will also be plenty to keep the little ones amused with rides, fairground stalls and an appearance from Father Christmas himself.

Hog roast, mulled wine, mince pies, performances from the Alderley District Scout Father Christmas on his Sleigh, Christmas Markets and lots more.

Fun festivities from 5.30pm to 10pm. Light switch on and Santa's arrival 7.30pm.
