5   Never fails to impress

I have eaten at The Wizard several times now and I have taken various guests with me who have all thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The service has been equally fantastic on a busy saturday night with a large party as it has been with just two of us on a week night. The menu always has plenty of choice, and I have loved everything I have eaten there. The Pork Scratchings with Apple Sauce Starter are amazing! The Steaks and all the locally produced meats are always cooked to perfection, and there are some fantastic puddings! Dominic is a credit to the restaurant, and his dedication clearly shows in every way. I cannot recommend The Wizard highly enough.

5   Fantastic afternoon for 30

Have just returned from a fantastic afternoon at the Wizard where we host a meal for 30 family and friends. On our arrival the staff were waiting to greet guests with a glass of fizz and could not have been more welcoming - even the kiddies were made to feel special and offered orange or apple juice.

The private dining room was the perfect setting, and the food was devine (Watercress and New potato soup, roast beef and ALL the trimmings and to top it all off Chocolate croissant bread and butter pudding with custard. The children could choose their meal on the day which they loved (as opposed to ordering days in advance and then changing their minds!!), and their meals arrived with our starters which again they appreciated.

In all, Dominic and his team did us very proud and all our guests were extremely complimentary of the whole day. I cannot recommend The WIzard highly enough.

5   Was recommended - now I recommend

Having heard good reports from various sources, I decided to take a small party there in December. Great cosy atmosphere, could not fault the service or the food and left stating we must go back again. Called again 'on speck' in January to try out their normal menu (rather than the Christmas fayre we had had before). Once again - nice atmosphere friendly staff and good food at a reasonable price. Will return.

4   Hearty British food with atmosphere

We visited The Wizard on the Macclesfield Road on Saturday 17th October. The restaurant has parking front and rear. The restaurant is deceptively large and we were greeted with a warm welcome on arrival.

The low ceilings and original wooden beams add to the atmosphere. The staff are courteous and friendly. We sat near to the bar. The menu is mainly traditional British food such as hotpot, fish & chips, fillet steak, sausage & mash etc but the restaurant manages a fresh take on all of these dishes. The hotpot was a little disappointing but the other dishes were excellent. The restaurant offers value for money considering the attention to detail in the dishes.

One minor quibble was that the tables appear to be pre-selected when you book, meaning you cannot change table if you prefer one close to the window for example. This is a promising restaurant that we would visit again.

3   Good but slow

Took my family here on Sunday for lunch. Much improved since it became a pub. Food was great and staff friendly but nobody particularly enjoyed the 1 hr 20 min wait for our main course.
