Very disappointed

We have dined at London Road three times and each time have been very disappointed. On the last occasion, three weeks ago, we were squeezed into a table by the window. Every time a waiter tried to get past, we had to shift our chairs.

The waitress who served us was very polite, but we hardly saw her after she had served our meals. We were left to pour our own wine.

I ordered the duck served pink; I got it pink but it was so tough that I was forced to leave a substantial portion.

At one point the people at the neighbouring table had to ask us to move round as they were constantly bumping into our chairs.

All in all a very disappointing experience. We will not be back.

Excellent food, excellent atmosphere and superb service

We have eaten in London Road twice and both occasions have been very enjoyable.

The first was mid week for our wedding anniversary. It was during January when they had the half price offer available. This was not only excellent value (we had the Alan Jackson beef to share), but the service matched the quality of the food which was cooked to perfection.

We have experienced great food around the world and have eaten at some fabulous restaurants over the years, but this is definitely one to put in our top 10.

The second time we visited was the Friday of Valentines weekend and as we booked this very "last minute" they were able to accommodate us for a 8.45pm table. Again, the food and service was outstanding.

We will definitely return for another special occassion in the future.

Well done London Road!

A little disappointed

We visited London Road on Saturday 2nd January 2010. We were greeted on arrival and the lady asked to take our coats.

We were offered a table at the front window. We ordered the slow-cooked pork belly and Goosnarch duck. Both dishes were below £20 each. We ordered bread as a starter, which took a while to arrive whilst it was cooked.

The location of the table meant that the waiter repeatedly squeezed between one of the benches and our table. The table behind was also so close that guests frequently bumped you from behind.

The service was average, with no attempt to refill glasses, fold napkins, remove crumbs or engage in polite conversation i.e. take the order and go. The restaurant had a few other diners but was quiet and lacking atmosphere. The food was unremarkable.

On departure, our coats were squashed behind the other diners and the lady had to wrestle them free for us.

We have no real complaint or compliment for the restaurant. Average.

Great New Manager

Dined at London Rd Tonight, the food was as usual exceptional as was the service!, though they were quite busy! We met the new manager who has just taken over from Chris, (who truly looked after us every time we came.) His name is Steven and he took exceptional care with us and truly made us feel very welcome, we think he'll be a great addition to the village!

Thought we should give him a mention, Will be visiting again very soon!

Has anyone noticed...

That almost every fish dish at LR has some meat with it. Last night my brother ( veggie ) and I took our mother for a birthday dinner at LR. Both wanted fish and to avoid meat. Very few selections were open to them. I then noticed that my own favourite - the Scallops - come garnished with a small piece of bacon and on a small Black Pudding. Very nice - but still with meat. I know that we could probably ask for the dishes without the meat accoutrement but then you only get half the dish that the chef has created. More fish with just fish sauce, fish stock or vegetables please.

Another fine dinner at LR

Well yet again LR comes up to the mark. Blue steak properly blue. Scallops fab. It really is the best restaurant in the village and has a great offer on a bottle of champers for the early diner

Sad that they cannot get themselves organised enough to put a special offer on the vouchers page as well.

Thanks for the dinner LR

Bit loud for a Sunday lunch

Went here a few Sundays ago and wasn't too impressed with the service nor the live entertainment - a bit too loud to hear what each other was saying and decided we'd avoid the Sunday Lunch thing in future. Albeit the food was excellent. Returned last Friday evening and it was packed! Service was superb despite being extremely busy and as always the food was excellent. Generally a noisy, vibrant place to eat!!
